A current strain of Influenza A (H3N2)—referred to as “Super K”—is circulating and can come on suddenly. Below is a clear overview of the symptoms being reported, along with the same supportive remedies mentioned.

Symptoms:

This strain may cause:

- Sudden high fever

- Chills

- Headache

- Sore throat

- Severe fatigue

- Muscle aches

- Persistent cough ( often a secondary symptom)

- Runny nose

Some people may also experience:

- Nausea

- Vomiting and diarrhoea (more common in children)

In my experience with this strain of the virus, I have identified several key medicines that are highly effective. Here, I am sharing some easy home remedies to help support and protect your family during this flu season.

Natural Supportive options for Super K strain:

- Olive leaf extract, found at most pharmacies and health food stores. Follow the directions on the product for dosage. Olive leaf extract has many uses; it supports the spleen, adrenals, kidneys and lungs. Because it is rich in the polyphenol oleuropein, it possesses potent antibacterial and antiviral properties. It works by inhibiting virus replication, blocking viral entry into cells, and destroying bacterial cell membranes.

You can buy it at most pharmacies and health food stores. Follow the directions on the product for dosage.

- Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) possesses significant antimicrobial and antiviral properties, largely due to its primary bioactive components, thymol and carvacrol. These chemicals disrupt bacterial cell membranes and suppress viral activity. Thyme is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including those resistant to antibiotics.

To make make a tea with thyme, boil the leaves and sprigs in spring water, then simmer for 10-15 minutes. May be drunk hot or cold with a small amount of honey for taste.

- Honey with lemon: Raw honey serves as a potent natural antibiotic and antiviral agent due to its low pH (3.2–4.5) and hydrogen peroxide production, which dehydrate and eliminate pathogens. To achieve optimal results, use raw honey, as heating or processing can diminish its natural antibacterial and antiviral properties. Raw honey with lemon can be particularly beneficial for soothing sore throats and may help lower the risk of secondary infections.

Acupressure Points (for those who know how to apply it)

If you’re familiar with acupressure, points such as Lung 9 (LU9) and Large Intestine 4 (LI4) may be useful in the early stages of the virus especially with the sudden onset of symptoms and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea.

Rest and When to Seek Help

Rest is essential for both physical and mental well-being, enabling the body to heal and refresh. Sufficient rest improves your immune response. However, many find it challenging to prioritize rest in today's fast-paced society.

Your body generates fatigue and tiredness to direct your energy towards effectively fighting off the virus. Refrain from engaging in strenuous exercise, set aside your phone and laptop, spend brief moments in the sun, and take time to relax.

If symptoms worsen or you’re concerned at any point,

Contact the Clinic

It is crucial to seek professional support as soon as you notice any worsening of symptoms. Delaying contact with the clinic can lead to complications or prolonged discomfort.

Remember, early intervention can often lead to better outcomes, so do not hesitate to seek help when needed.

Appointments outside regular hours are also available for urgent situations.
